To be honest, this isn’t my favorite part of the makeover. Don’t get me wrong, I loved looking for the perfect modern farmhouse paint colors.
Paint is pretty and it’s fun to choose the colors for the room but I just want it to be done and onto something else.
We have a paint sprayer so that helps but the touch ups seem to take forever!
So that’s why I’m very happy to finally be able to write this post because that means that we’re done!! 😊
I like for a room to feel bright and airy; however, my husband likes the room to be darker so we can wind down after work.
So when we searched for the perfect modern farmhouse paint colors, I try to find one that fits both of our preferences.
Our living room is 288 square feet. Not huge but not tiny either. I didn’t want it to be entirely white even though it is small for a living room.
I like more of a neutral and toned down color so I went with a tan color. That way it’s the best of both worlds; it’s not stark white but it isn’t dark like a cave either!
I also wanted to accent it with a blue-green color to match my vintage ironing board that I had made into a shelf. You can read how I did that here.
But I’m getting ahead of myself!
All the walls were washed before any paint was involved to get them clean.
Our room has “shiplap” walls which are wood so we used a neutral color of wood filler to fill each hole from years of hangings.
We then waited about an hour for the wood filler to dry and then sanded down all of the high spots that the wood filler created.
Now to the fun part!!
We decided on Gallery Grey for the paint color on the walls and a ceiling white paint for the ceiling and the trim.
The Gallery grey looks more like a tan when you put it on the walls. I think we got the perfect modern farmhouse paint colors, for sure!
It is a perfect color palette for the person that likes a dark room with a mixture of bright to bring out the light.
As you can see, we chose a darker color for the floor and the trim to make the wall color pop.
I’m also going to incorporate some teal and gold colors into the decor as you can see on the built-in bookshelf.
I plan to add some fillers so stay tuned for the next post in the series. 😉
